  1. There Have Been Many Roads
    That I’ve Traveled With You

    For Raymond,

In my years of this life
    On this planet
    There have been many roads
    That I’ve traveled with you.
And this one is the best.

It is because I have known you and the world
In ways that I have been blessed,
And continue to be so, even at this time,
In ways that I truly understand,
    Because you have been alongside,
    and with me, still.
Wherever the two of us have been

We have traveled that road together,
And this one is the best.

    And so the journey begins
    Across the centuries
    It has been so

    The brilliance of today’s life
    Becomes an energy
    That jus’ goes off somewhere
    With no memory
    But the moment
    that comes in dreams

    Crowns of Blue Memory

They wore crowns of blue memory
Even among their clothes, that day,
When she hushed her Dad’s speech
By a turn and a cheek and a look
    that was definitively, her own.

    “I AM my Father’s Daughter!”
    She seemed to be saying,
“And I love him so much
    I can shut him up!”

    Ten Fingers

    Hands that reach out,
    Touch, and gesture,
    Saying, “It’s that small,
    Or large,” and
    “See, that’s who I am,”
    As the near two-month old
    Holds court with the youngin’s
    While ten fingers grasp
    Each moment, holding each
    Minute true in his hands,
    As each hour gives light,
    And each day, its night.

    A Brush of Hair

    Military cut
    Squared-shouldered
    Broad Smile
    Captured pose

    Who would think
    This would all be
    Spoken so
    With a brush of hair.
