Kathie Jo Martinez

Kathie Jo Martinez

Kathie Jo Sisk Martinez, born January 25, 1954,  was called home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2017. Kathie graduated from Edgewood High School in West Covina and worked in human relations for Southern California Edison in Rosemead for many years.  Her beautiful heart and soul touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.  Kathie was the kind of person who always looked at the glass as “half full,” and lived her life like the saying:” When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!”
Kathie enjoyed music, attending concerts with friends, crafting, her collection of family memorabilia and photos, shopping, talking for hours, her precious dogs, exploring her faith,  but most of all had a passion for making those in her life feel so loved and appreciated. She had the reputation of having a genuinely infectious laugh. Kathie’s warm spirit, pure joy, and ability to always see the good in everyone and everything will be forever missed by those she loved so dearly.
This incredible woman is survived by her parents, F.L. and Margaret Sisk, sister Pamela Sisk Paul, niece Jacqueline Lee Paul Shinder, great niece Madison Jolie Shinder, great nephews Asher and Benjamin Shinder,  stepdaughters Melisa and Jovanah (Martinez), and the many friends who she truly considered to be her family. Kathie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Martinez and her grandparents,  Joe and Bernice “Bobbi” Verstraten.
To our sweet Kathie Jo…to the world you may be one person, but to us, you mean the world. May God bless your heart.
A private ceremony and burial at sea with family and close friends will be held sometime this spring out of Newport Harbor in Newport Beach.

Kathie was my life long friend of too many years to count. She was a loving, fun, kind and caring person. Kathie lived with my husband, Chris and I for the past 4 years, and miss her so very much. Kathie was unique and I know we will never have the pleasure of meeting anyone like her again. She will be greatly missed by many, but, we know she is with our Heavenly Father, and will suffer no more. May God take good care of my beloved friend.

  2. In loving memory to my friend, Kathie and with heartfelt wishes for peace and comfort to the people who loved Kathie.

My sincere condolences to her family and “ALL” of us, who were lucky enough to meet and know Kathie Jo Sisk Martinez. May God give us extra grace at this sad time.

Kathie was a friend of mine for over 50 years. We had met through her older sister in high school, but soon the real relationship blossomed with the true friend. She was one of my first baby sitters and I trusted her deeply with my first born. Kathie who was the special gem of the family, shined a bright light and made our world a better place. She was one of the most giving, loyal, gracious, joyful, uplifting people I have ever meet. When I was living out of state she helped me out by visiting, shopping and befriending my mother on many occasions. I will always remember this and be grateful for her kindness. She offered her home to have a special birthday party for my mother.

Kathie was a treasured friend to many and a kind and humble lady who lived a good Christian life. The old adage, ‘The Good Die Young’ is so appropriate in this circumstance.

We all knew she would not live to a ripe old age because of her many health problems she developed early on in life. But one is never ready for death, the final moment, the last breath of a loved one.

Kathie was a trooper and always had a positive attitude concerning her life, even though at times she suffered greatly. Mental, emotional, and physical difficulties would weave themselves in and out of her sweet life, but she still gave all of us inspiration and hope in whatever was ailing our lives. So unselfish and so grateful for what she had. She did enjoyed her life and had a good time. So many funny stories, gatherings, adventures, and loving memories.

We have learn much from knowing Kathie. She had wisdom beyond her years, and an “Old Soul”. I’m a better person for having crossed paths with this Angel of a woman. My family will mourn our loss, and always remember Kathie, but will find comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain and moved on to a beautiful paradise. I love you, Kathie. See you in the later. In Yeshua’s name. Love, Susan Eloise Gale Kelly
